Leading With Impact
Can you have positive impact as a leader without being yourself? I
think not. The essence of leadership is to operate from a position of
strength – strength not expressed through authority and formal power
but through what used to be known as character and is sometimes
expressed these days as authenticity.
Personal strength always depends upon you standing on the firm
ground of who you want to be. Effective leaders are those who both
understand and meet the expectations of the organisation they lead AND
operate from this position. To operate purely on the basis of
fulfilling expectations is merely to be dutiful and compliant whilst to
lead as yourself but with no regard for the needs or expectations of
your organisation is to be dangerously disengaged.
The challenge is to find a way that lets you become the person you
want to be - and the may be about rediscovering the impulse that makes
you, YOU.
