NEWS - What are we up to at the moment?
Apter Development would like to welcome Jamie Duncan to the team!
After graduating in 1988 with a degree in Sports psychology from Brighton Polytechnic, Jamie worked within the sport and exercise environement before starting his career as a Business Psychologist 11 years ago. By using his ‘unique’ combination of psychological expertise, sports performance techniques and hard won business experience he has helped deliver sustainable higher performance with such international and national clients as Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, Citigroup, SA Brain, Sony BMG Music, Tetra Pak and WPP as Managing Director of Catalyst Consultancy.
Jamie lives in Provence with his wife and two children where he enjoys the fine food of the area whilst ‘maintaining’ his fitness through his cycling activities;

the last 2 years have included charity rides from London to Paris and climbing Mont Ventoux. Also, his knowledge of budget airline routes from Marseilles airport is second to none!
Now Apter Development is delighted to welcome Jamie to collaborate on a number of different projects and programs over the coming months and into the future.

Inspiring Locations

A defining aspect of Apter Development programs is often the unique locations we use. We believe that taking delegates out of the office environment and allowing them time and space to reflect is an important part their development process.
Our most recent program with a group of European managers is no exception. The idyllic location of Park Hotel Villa Grazioli provided fabulous panoramic views across Rome, from the top of the Tusculum Hill in Frascati.
|
Like Cardinal Carafa who built the Villa in 1580, we also realised the location provided a “place in the peacefulness of rural life, where [one’s] spirit could find relief and contemplate the mysteries of nature away from the fatigue of the city”.
The stunning 16th and 17th frescoes that adorn the walls and ceilings along with the extensive park that surrounds the Villa truly helped individuals to get the most out of their experience on an Apter Development program.

| Nick Owen has been working on Apter Development Programmes for a number of years. As a master NLP practitioner, Actor, Consultant and Author he has just released his new book: The Salmon of Knowledge: Stories for Work, Life, the Dark Shadow and One Self. There are well over 140 stories in this collection, from ancient to contemporary, from all points of the compass and organised by theme. The stories invite us to wake up, stop taking ourselves so damned seriously, look at the world from perspectives other than our own, and recognise that only by changing ourselves can we reconnect with what is truly important in life. |

Keeping your eye on the ball – Leadership tips for emerging from the downturn
1. Stay Tough!
The news is starting to shade from negative to positive at last, but keep a focus on the things you need to control; many organisations and mangers will still stumble over the coming months
2. Challenge assumptions
Work with your colleagues to build a picture of what the post recession world will be like. How has the mindset and structure of your market changed? What new opportunities and threats does this offer?
3. Back winners
Look around you; who in your team and network has emerged as a leader over the last few months, who have been the players and spectators in your efforts to maintain performance
4. Generate momentum
Develop a leadership style that moves people from survival thinking to a more entrepreneurial approach
5. Keep your sense of humour!

Managing People and Processes
A great new framework programme we have developed from our recent experience which can be tailored to any organisational context. It is a programme that is already transforming the performance of a critical but forgotten management level in several organisations. The need to ensure superior management capability at levels of the business where previously competent supervision or administration would have sufficed is a recurring issue for many organisations. |
