The Apter Leadership Profiling System (ALPS)
Leadership is about generating high performance in others, therefore a leader needs to be clear about their impact upon those they lead – whether they be the Managing Director, Project Leader or anyone else responsible for the output of others. Successful leaders are those who can vary their focus, behaviour and style to build opportunities for those they lead to perform to their best.
What is the ALPS?
Based on Reversal Theory, the ALPS is a 40 item questionnaire completed by the leader and those they lead.
The results, along with the supporting booklet, help leaders to focus on how the climate they create impacts the motivation and performance of those they lead across 8 key climate conditions:

- Purpose: Do followers know the longer term direction and have clear goals?
- Energy: Do they feel able to be enthusiastic about the job and be interested in it?
- Structure: Do they know the rules and what is expected of them?
- Change Orientation: Can they question the status quo, be critical, make suggestions?
- Individual Contribution: Can they take responsibility and be accountable for what they do?
- Enablement: Are they encouraged to co-operate and help others?
- Consideration: Do they feel safe and valued as an individual?
- Warmth: Are they given the opportunity to enjoy a 'team spirit'?
The ALPS offers strategies for effectively engaging the full range of contributions from those whose performance the leader is responsible for.
